Companion Program

Companions of the conference delegates are invited to pick up information that will be available in the registration area on what there is to see and do in and around Calgary. In addition City of Calgary volunteers are available to answer questions.

We've also arranged for some spectacular companion tours, as follows:


Tour #C0 - Expression of Interest for Saturday or Sunday ski trip to Banff

Cost: TBD

We don't know what the weather will be like at the end of November, but we're planning on a day ski trip to Banff on both Saturday and Sunday if there's sufficient interest. When you register let us know if this interests you and we'll arrange for a bus to/from the Palliser and lift tickets.


Tour #C1 - Banff / Lake Louise Guided Tour

$170 for full day tour

The Banff tour includes a a visit to the Cave & Basin National Historic Site, the birth place of Canada's National Parks. See Bow Falls, the Upper Hot Springs, Canada House, Lake Minnewanka, Bankhead and possible wildlife sightings on this tour. "Catch a lift to the top of the world view" on Sulphur Mountain. Experience the historic luncheon buffet menu selection at the 'Castle in the Rockies: - the Faimont Banff Springs Hotel. You'll also be invited on a guided tour of the historic castle. A drive up Tunnel Mountain will offer you Surprise Corner and another spectacular photo stop opportunity. Also visit Lake Louise, the "Jewel of the Canadian Rockies" See the Chateau Lake Louise, Victoria Glacier and Mount Victoria . Before returning to Calgary, there will be time to shop on Banff Avenue.


Tour C2 - City of Calgary Tour and Guided Tour of Canada Olympic Park day

$65 for 1/2 day tour

Visit Fort Calgary, Eau Claire Market, China Town, the Calgary Tower, Glenbow Museum, Olympic Plaza, Pengrowth Saddledome and the Talisman Centre. At the Canada Olympic Park see the Olympic Hall of Fame and Museum, Ski Jump Tower, Ice House, Bobsled, luge and skeleton sled track. RIde the chair lift. The last stop is the Olympic Oval.


Tour C3 - Time for Me Day - Full Day

$125 for a full day

Full day activity focus’ on stretching the mind and the body! Sessions of Meditation, Feng Shui, Yoga, Walking and Nutrition. A healthy lunch will also be provided, ensuring a well balanced day. $125.00 The above options provide an interesting way to spend some time in Calgary.


Tour C4 - Wild Cave Tour - Canmore

$150 for 2/3 day tour

The tour includes a 20-30 minute interpretive hike through a pine forest to the cave entrance as well as a 3-3.5 hour guided natural history tour through Rat’s Nest Cave. Rat's Nest cave is a wild, undeveloped cave with no artificial lights, boardwalk or handrails. While inside the cave participants will be climbing, crawling and squeezing through cave passages. No experience necessary as tour guides will provide instruction. Caving equipment provided but participants should wear comfortable shoes with good treads and warm, easy to move in clothing.


Tour C5 - Prehistoric Paradise: Drumheller Badlands Day Trip

$150 for a full day

Imagine a time when the land was a tropical plain dominated by dinosaurs and flying reptiles. Journey back to this mystical era to experience prehistoric life preserved in stone, while witnessing beautiful vistas of modern farmlands and vast plains. Stop at Horseshoe Canyon for a spectacular view of geographical formations carved in the earth. From here, enter into the picturesque Red Deer River Valley - formed during the last Ice Age 12,000 to 15,000 years ago - where JB Tyrrell's first discovered the skull of the 'Albertosauraus' dinosaur in the late 1880's. Venture past the Orkney Hill View Point, which has a sheer drop to the Red River Valley . Continue alone the historic Dinosaur Trail, past Horsethief Canyon and the world's largest "Little Church". Journey down the Hoodoo Trail to see the Hoodoos, and the Suspension Bridge. No Drumheller visit is complete without a visit to the world-famous Royal Tyrrell Museum, one of the largest paleontological museums on the planet. Opened in 1985, the museum is a primary prehistoric research station and exhibition centre.
