Technical Tours
TechTour #1
Green Commuting in the Centre City Whether its getting to the downtown
or traveling within the CBD to meetings, Calgary has options to do this in a
sustainable manner. Leaving the car at home is often determined by whether
client meetings are scheduled during the day. With a 40 per cent mode split,
Calgary has made it possible for a growing number of people to carry out the
business day using sustainable transportation modes.
This tour will highlight the hardware and software tools that have been
implemented to keep travel to the core green. Some of these tools are the
free-fare zone, Stephen Avenue (our pedestrian mall), the +15 system, and
parking and cycling policies. The tour will also examine Calgarys approach to
keeping the downtown lively such as our public art program.
TechTour #2
Transit Oriented Communities and Their Transit This tour is a tale of
two downtown communities near LRT stations. The first is an established
community with LRT introduced in the late 1980s, and the second, constructed on
the site of an old hospital.
Walk with Calgarys planners to learn how area policy is used to emphasize
transit oriented development in existing communities and how the public can help
shape new projects.
TechTour #3
Mount Royal College TDM Program - Take a trip to visit Mount Royal
College and learn how a TDM program was planned, designed and implemented within

improved transit service and student, staff and faculty buy-in. Learn what
elements have been successful while exploring the beautiful campus setting of
this institution.
